Charging Station Etiquette in Virginia
Buy a Hyundai Kona Electric Today
We know that a lot seems to have happened over the last few years in the automotive world. Big changes have occurred, including with Hyundai. You'll now find completely electric vehicles ready for you to get behind the wheel of, and with that comes a lot of information you have to process. At Pearson Auto Group, we want to do everything in our power to give you the best assistance possible with all of these changes. That includes giving you a closer look at every aspect of EV ownership. Charging stations, in particular, are something that can raise a lot of questions. Our goal here is not to primarily discuss what charging stations are, but how we should all be acting at them. New things mean unknown rules that some people may be unaware of, and we want everyone to be as aware as possible. Keep reading below to find out about some key etiquette points for charging stations.
Not for parking
This first tip should be pretty obvious, but sometimes the most obvious things can be overlooked. Charging stations are not, we repeat, not parking spaces. That means that regardless of how quick you might be in the store, if you have no intention of actually plugging your vehicle in, then you have no business spending any amount of time in a charging station spot. These should always be saved for people who actively want to charge their rides, and everyone else simply needs to find somewhere else to park. Imagine the same frustration you have when someone parks at a gas pump, without pumping gas. That kind of thinking should be applied here, too.
Follow all signs
Every charging station that you go to has the potential to vary slightly. That's why there is nothing more important for you to do than to look around you and follow the signs that have been posted. Some of these signs could give you specific time limits that you have to follow. Other people around you will most definitely notice if you are not following the rules that have been implemented. To keep everyone happy, it's best that you don't push these rules, and that you just follow along with what the group is doing. Remember, you can always go to another charging station to continue charging!
Don't unplug anyone
We know the temptation is there. You're busy, you're low on charge, and it seems like someone else has stopped charging and is full. You should never touch someone else's vehicle, especially the plug that is giving them the charge they need. That would just be considered rude, and we know that you would not want that to happen to you. Unless you have been given express permission, you need to leave other people alone at charging stations, and simply wait your turn. We are all in this together, and the kinder we are to one another, the more we all benefit.
